The Flag of Israel was adopted on October 28, 1945, five months after the country’s establishment. It has two blue stripes and a blue Star of David against a white background. The basic design recalls the Talit, the Jewish prayer shawl, which is with blue stripes. The colour white symbolizes great faith and blue the appearance of the firmament.
“Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”
